The year was 1889 and pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito moves from counter to counter - kneading, chopping, a little of this, a lot of that (that's amore!). It is a balmy night in central Napoli and Signore Esposito will be serving his innovation to a Queen. Not just any Queen but Queen Margherita of Savoy, Italy's first lady. He pulls his innovation from the wood oven - a flat bread with ingredients to represent the "Tricolore", the red, green, and white of the Italian flag. As the Queen raises the pizza to her mouth, she is delighted by the smell of fresh basil, ripened tomatoes, and fior di latte mozzarella. Thus a legend is born, the Pizza Margherita.
From a kitchen in Rome to your home, Walks presents Pizza making with Denyse and Roberto. Over the course of this live experience, our Italian chefs will work alongside you, giving you the most essential (but often overlooked!) tips to creating the perfect pizza dough, sharing with you the techniques to become your own at home pizzaiolo, and spend time in conversation with everyone online.
With any online tour, you'll also receive a $25 gift voucher which you can use to book any Walks tour, valid for 2 years! And don't forget, if you can afford to tip your guide, you can do so here.
All times specified are in Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
*Please note. To help better prepare, we thought you might want to look at some of the recipes ahead of time--you will be sent a recipe document 48 hours prior to your tour. You may choose to "cook-along" with our Chefs, or might just want to follow along--your choice!
Due to shortages of ingredients in Italy (where our Chefs are based!) the toppings on the pizza, types of pasta, or sauce (ex: pesto, tomato, puttanesca, arrabbiata, bolognese) made in the class could vary.
Join Italian chefs, Denyse and Roberto, as you learn the steps to making homemade pasta, the cornerstone of Italian cuisine. In this one hour interactive tutorial, our chefs will walk you through the do's and don't's of making the perfect homemade pasta!
